BUNKAI ( APPLICATIONS ) OF KATA SHUPARUNPEI or SHUPARINPEI
( 37 times )
Who Attacks = Zuki
Who defends = Uke
Bunkai 1 and 3
POSITION = MIGI SANCHIN DACHI; SANCHIN NO KAMAE
TECHNIQUES = HIKI TE; TSUKI and TATE SHUTO UKE
In this application four situations can be given:
1) Zuki takes the left wrist of Uke. Uke liberates himself throwing toward back,
violent and quickly, and with the other arm he separates Zuki with tate shuto
uke.
2) Zuki takes the left wrist of Uke. Uke pulls with force toward hiki te, and
executes hidari ken chudan gyaku tsuki ( left fist gyaku zuki toward half zone
of Zuki body ). Then Uke returning to throw back, while with the other arm he
separates Zuki with migi sho chudan tate shuto uke ( technique of open right
hand, with shuto uke toward half zone of rival's body ).
3) Zuki takes the left wrist of Uke. Uke liberates himself with a strong tug
toward back, at the time that separates Zuki with the other arm. Finally Uke
advances to hidari Sanchin dachi, and it finishes with migi ken chudan gyaku mae
tsuki ( hit of right hand fist toward half area of rival's body )..
4) If Zuki attacks with migi chudan gyaku tsuki; Uke defends with hidari ken
yoko uke ( left yoko uke with close fist ), and later he against-attacks with
migi ken chudan gyaku mae tsuki.
Bunkai 2
Idem to bunkai 1, but toward the other front, and inverting the techniques of
arms .
Bunkai 4
POSITION = Idem to bunkai 1.
TECHNIQUES = AWASE SUKUI UKE; AWASE TEISHO UCHI
In this application several situations can be given:
1) Zuki attacks with migi chudan oi tsuki. Uke blocks by outside with migi kake
uke ( with tsukami tensho ). Then, at the same time that he stretches back his
arm, Uke drives the right arm of Zuki, and he strikes the face of Zuki with
jodan hidari teisho uchi.
2) Zuki attacks idem to 1. Uke blocks idem to 1. Then Uke unbalances his rival,
when pulling Zuki's right arm toward the outside ( with migi sho the wrist, and
with hidari sho the muscle biceps of the arm ).
Continuing the previous bunkai 3 you should proceed in the following way:
a) Zuki takes both wrists of Uke. Uke, displacing with hidari ashi toward migi
Sanchin dachi, pulls (with force) his hidari ken ( his left fist ) toward hidari
hiki te, and executes hidari ken gyaku tsuki ( left fist's gyaku zuki ). As he
doesn't liberates himself, Uke attracts both hands toward his chest and then he
opens totally the arms, liberating himself of the grab. Zuki hugs Uke and Uke,
advancing to hidari Sanchin dachi, impedes the hug with ryo sho mawashi kake uke,
and later he pushes Zuki with ryo sho awase teisho uchi.
b) Zuki takes both wrists of Uke in crusade way. Uke open his arms ( crossing in
this way the arms of Zuki ), attracting the hands toward his chest ( palms of
hands toward sky ), displacing hidari ashi toward migi Sanchin dachi. Then Uke
can make two things:
b1) He could open totally his arms, being
liberated when he forces Zuki to cross his arms. Then, advancing to hidari
Sanchin dachi, Uke pushes out Zuki with ryo sho awase teisho uchi.
b2) He could take both wrist of Zuki. Then
Uke totally opens his arms, and advancing to hidari Sanchin dachi ( without
loosing Zuki's wrists ), with mawashi kake uke he dislocates an elbow ( or
shoulder ) of Zuki. Then Uke pushes Zuki in similar way as in b1.

POSITION = SANCHIN DACHI
TECHNIQUES = MAWASHI KAKE UKE; TEISHO UCHI; URA KAKE UKE and SHIHON NUKITE

1) Zuki attacks with migi tsuki. Uke blocks (in migi Sanchin dachi, by the
outside) with ryo sho mawashi kake uke, and he pushes Zuki with ryo sho teisho
uchi. Zuki takes both wrists of Uke and Uke liberates himself with ryo sho migi
ura kake uke ( with tsukami and hidari hikite ). Then he finishes with hidari
ura shihon nukite ( toward Zuki's stomach ), at the same time that it executes
hidari hiku toward ura hikite.
2) Zuki attacks with migi tsuki. Uke blocks idem to situation 1, and he pushes
Zuki in similar way as in the situation 1( but now with shuri ashi ). Zuki
attacks again with migi tsuki, and Uke defends again with ryo sho migi ura kake
uke with tsukami and hidari hikite ( in migi Sanchin dachi with yori ashi
), and later he finishes in similar way that in the situation 1 of the present
bunkai.

both wrists of Uke, and Uke (( displacing back (or advancing) toward migi
Sanchin dachi )) in first time he looses his left wrist with a short migi gedan
barai ude uchi, and later he looses his right wrist with hidari ken gyaku tsuki
( this hidari ken gyaku tsuki it passes above the arm that executed gedan barai
ude uchi, and it hits by the outside of the forearm of Zuki).
2) Zuki attacks similar to situation 1. Uke blocks similar to situation 1 and
counterattacks similar to situation 1. Then (advancing toward migi Sanchin dachi)
he hits Zuki with migi tettsui to the liver, and takes him by the belt, or by
the lapel ( with the hand that hit tettsui ). Simultaneously at the time that
attracts Zuki, Uke finishes (concludes) with hidari chudan gyaky tsuki.
THE SECOND PART = ( Against two rivals )
Zuki 1 attacks with migi oi tsuki. Uke defends similar to situation 1 of the
bunkai 11.
Zuki 2 attacks by the back. Uke rotates 180º toward hidari Sanchin dachi,
defending with ryo ken kake uke and counterattaCking with ryo ken awase tsuki.
Then it can continue this way:
a) If Zuki takes the wrists = similar to situation 1 of the first part of this
bunkai.
b) If Zuki doesn't take the wrists = similar to situation 2 of the second part
of this bunkai.
Bunkai 16; 17; 18 and 19
POSITION = SHIKO DACHI
TECHNIQUES = IPPON YOKO UKE; IPPON KEN and RYO KEN GEDAN BARAI

( 45º by the outside ) on hidari Shiko dachi, and executing hidari chudan yoko
uke with tsukami. Then advancing with migi ashi toward hidari Neko Ashi dachi,
Uke counterattacks with migi ippon ken ( toward the neck, or toward the armpit
), and advancing now toward migi Shiko dachi 45º ( by inside of the taken arm )
he simultaneously finishes with migi gedan tettsui ( to genital area) and hidari
gedan hiku.
2) Zuki attacks with migi oi tsuki. Uke blocks by inside on hidari Shiko dachi (
45º ) with tsukami. Zuki liberates himself with migi tensho tsukami, and he
grabs the wrist of Uke. Uke executes migi ken tsuki ( above the arm of Zuki ),
and then continues liberating himself with ryo ken tettsui that it hits in the
kidney, or in the false ribs.
